WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 22, 2008) - In a game
that featured a combined nine hits, the Rollins softball team came
out on top against conference foe Saint Leo Lions 1-0 on Tuesday
evening at Lake Island Park. The Tars improve to 33-12, 10-6 in
conference as the Lions drop to 30-13, 9-7 in the SSC.
The Tars and Lions remained scoreless until the bottom of the
fifth inning when Sherri Rabenold reached first base on a walk and
then stole second. Missy Thogmartin then advanced Rabenold to third
with a sacrifice bunt. Monica Meadows sent a sacrifice fly into
center field to bring home Rabenold for the lone run of the game,
1-0.
With her 40th stolen base of the season, Rabenold broke the
Rollins single-season record for stolen bases previously set by
Jennifer Olsen with 35 in 2006. Rabenold is currently second on the
Tars' All-Time stolen bases list with 74 behind Jody Horton who
notched 99 career stolen bases from 1996-99. Head Coach Michelle
Frew is just five wins away from her 400th Rollins career win
(395).
Nicole Anderson (20-4) picked up the win for Rollins as she
threw for seven innings giving up only four hits and striking out
seven of the 24 Lion batters she faced. Ashley Urbanik (22-8)
received the loss pitching six innings and giving up one run on
five hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
The Tars will be back in action tomorrow, April 23 when they
