ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (April 2, 2008)'' The
7th-ranked Rollins College women's tennis team defeated Flagler
College 6-3 in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon at the
Flagler Tennis Center. Rollins raised its record to 16-1 while
Flagler dropped to 7-9.
The Tars swept all three doubles matches to start off the
afternoon. 14th-ranked Marnie Mahler and Roshni Luthra shutout
Chelsi de Cuba and Roxane Alt at No. 1 doubles, 8-0. Margaret
Junker and Silvia Frandji surrendered just one point to Fernanda
Ospina and Chelsea Taylor at No. 2 doubles. Allie Steele and Sydni
Katz were pushed to the limit at No. 3 doubles by Flagler's Deon
Miller and Gabriela Ospina, 8-6.
Rollins won the first three flights in singles play in straight
sets led by 27th-ranked Mahler's 6-1, 6-1 win over de Cuba. Luthra
took a straight sets win over Ospina 7-5, 7-5 in the No. 2, while
Junker rolled by Miller 6-4, 6-0 in the third seed.
The Saints only won the bottom three matches in singles play.
Taylor out-lasted Frandji 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 at No. 4 singles. Chelsea
Maratta defeated Katz 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and Roxane Alt
won in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) at No. 6 singles.
The Tars return to Sunshine State Conference action on Saturday,
April 5 when they host the Florida Southern College Moccasins at
11:00 a.m.
