TAMPA, Fla. (April 19, 2008) ' Behind the hot
bat of Sherri Rabenold, the Rollins softball team fell to the Tampa
Spartans 1-0 in the first game, but rebounded to win the second
game 6-2 in the ninth inning. The Tars improve to 32-12, 9-6, while
the Spartans drop to 29-13, 12-6. Head Coach Michelle Frew is just
six wins away (394) from her 400th Rollins victory.
Rabenold led the Tars on the day going 3-8 with two triples,
four RBI and an inside the park homerun. She has now tied the
single season record for triples with seven, while Jamie Rausch
went 1-4 with a double and RBI. Rachael Foster picked up the first
game loss giving up one run on eight hits and striking out 11
Spartan batters. Deanna Henriott got the game one win by pitching a
three-hitter and striking out 10.
The Game one score remained scoreless until the bottom of the
seventh inning when Arcuri singled to second base and Becker
singled to left field to score Arcuri for the game-winning run,
1-0.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Tars starting the
scoring with one run in the top of the first as VanLandingham
walked in Rausch, 1-0. Rollins got their second run in the fifth
inning when Rabenold tallied an inside the park homerun, 2-0. Tampa
battled back in the sixth inning as Keefe singled to left field to
score Tejas and Becker, 2-2.
In extra innings, the Tars' bats exploded in the ninth inning
when Ingrid Schumacher doubled to left field. Foster then sacrifice
singled to advance Schumacher to third base. Meghan Shaw then
singled to load the bases for Rabenold. The senior power hitter
blasted her second triple of the series to bring home Schumacher,
Foster and Shaw, 5-2. Rabenold would reach home on the play as well
on a throwing error by the leftfielder, 6-2.
Nicole Anderson got the game two win as she threw for nine
innings giving up two runs on seven hits striking out seven.
Henriott received the loss as she' pitched 7.1 innings giving up
five runs on seven hits striking out two.
The Tars will be back in action when they host a conference
series against the Saint Leo Lions starting on April 22. First
pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Lake Island Park.
