LAKELAND, Fla. (April 19, 2008) - Down 2-1
after doubles, the No. 9 Tars were unable to rebound against the
No. 14 Florida Southern Mocs as they fell 5-2 in the third place
match at the SSC Tournament. Rollins, with a 15-7 overall record,
takes fourth place in the SSC, while the Mocs garner third.
The No. 2 doubles duo of Gustavo Carvalho and Pablo Seijo were
the lone winners as they defeated Alex Thesleff and Clifford
Johnson in a 9-8 tiebreaker, 7-3. No. 11 Michael Knoedler and Roman
Schirmaier defeated No. 13 Brian Compton and Jonathan Gomez 8-6 in
the top position. Justin LaFlamme and Greg Heartt took out Albin
Hubscher and Andrew Johnson 8-2 in the third seed.
Compton was the only singles winner as he rolled by No. 5
Knoedler 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 1. The No. 2 match of Schirmaier and
Gomez went unfinished as well as the Guenther Fercher and Carvalho
match at No. 4. Seijo fell to Thesleff 6-1, 6-1 in the third spot,
while LaFlamme beat Hubscher 6-2, 6-2 in the fifth slot and Ben
Taylor defeated Andrew Johnson 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 6.
The Tars will wait to see where they will play in the NCAA
Regional Tournament on May 8-10 with the sites to be
determined.
