BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 11, 2008) ' Rollins
jumped ahead in the early innings, but couldn't hold off a Lynn
comeback and fell 4-3 to the Fighting Knights in a Sunshine State
Conference match-up Friday. Lynn scored a run in each of the final
four innings with the last one coming with two outs in the bottom
of the seventh and the score tied.
Rollins (28-11, 5-5 SSC) belted 10 hits with Sheri Rabenold,
Missy Thogmartin, Jamie Rausch and Ingrid Schumacher each tallying
a pair. Schumacher knocked in two runs, including a solo homer in
the sixth to put the Tars ahead. Rabenold stole two bases on the
day to push her conference leading total to 37.
Nicole Anderson was saddled with the loss, allowing 11 hits and
four runs, three earned, with five strikeouts and a walk. Amber
Havnar scored the win in relief for Lynn (17-29, 2-11 SSC),
throwing the last two frames and surrendering three hits and a
run.
Havnar, Meghan Osborne and Nikki Pallister each had a pair of
hits to pace the Lynn bats.
Rausch led off the Rollins second with a triple to centerfield
and was brought in after a Schumacher single to put the visitors
ahead. The Tars manufactured a run in the third as Thogmartin led
off with a single, was sacrificed to second, moved to third on a
grounder and scored on a Rausch single.
Lynn got on the board in the fourth and added another in the
fifth to tie the score at 2-2. In the sixth, Schumacher blasted a
solo homer over the left field fence to put the Tars back on top.
Rollins then loaded the bases in the inning but couldn't capitalize
and left everyone all stranded.
The Fighting Knights tied it up in the bottom of the sixth,
taking advantage of Anderson's only walk and using timely hitting
to make it 3-3. Rollins came up empty on their half of the seventh
and Lynn belted three hits in their half, the final one coming with
two outs and a runner on third, and handed the Tars their fifth SSC
loss of the season.
Rollins and Lynn will clash for a conference doubleheader on
Saturday, April 12 in Boca with game one slated for 1 p.m. Fans can
