LAURINBURG, N.C. (March 30, 2008) - Junior Drew
Bernstein scored one goal and dished out an assist to lead the Tars
against the Knights of St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Sunday
afternoon.' St. Andrews jumped out to a four-goal lead to start the
game, and coasted to a 12-3 victory over Rollins on a cold and
soggy afternoon at Knights Field.' The loss is the Tars' fifth in a
row, and drops them to 2-10 overall, while the Knights improve to
3-9 for the season.
Sophomore duo Charlie Shelly and Christopher Gorman scored one
goal apiece to complete the tally for Rollins, with junior attacker
Andy Katz helping with an assist for the day.
Freshman starting goalie Zach Cole made 13 saves and collected
four ground balls on the day.' After some time on the field as a
defensive midfielder, freshman Doug O'Brien stepped in goal late in
the fourth quarter to shut out the Knights for the remainder of the
game by making two saves.
Eight different Knights scored as SAPC won their third straight
home contest.' Ryan Hoover scored the first goal of the game, and
after a freshman Chris Michela tally, found the back of the net two
more times for a first quarter hat trick to pull ahead of Rollins
in the opening quarter.
Freshman goalkeeper Patrick Wade in kept the Tars off the
scoreboard in the first 15 minutes by making three saves as the
Knights held a 4-0 advantage heading into the second quarter.'
Rollins finally rallied late in the second quarter with a quick
shot from Drew Bernstein, assisted by Andy Katz.' With just 90
seconds left in the half, a pair of SAPC Kyle Loda goals gave St.
Andrews a 6-1 advantage going into the break.
Rollins was out-scored by St. Andrews 3-1 in both the third and
fourth quarters to extend the Knights' final lead to
nine-goals.
SAPC controlled the statistical categories with a 53-26 shot
advantage and a 60-37 ground ball edge. The Tars were given 11
extra-man opportunities but were unable to capitalize on their
final man-up opportunity of the day with a goal from Shelly
assisted by Bernstein.
The Tars will be back on the road on Tuesday, April 1, when they
travel to fellow Deep South Conference member Saint Leo
University.' Rollins will take on the Lions in their second
match-up of the season, with this game counting towards their
conference record.' Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
