COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 29, 2008) ' The Rollins
softball hit parade traveled through South Carolina on Saturday as
the Tars beat Benedict 12-0 and 16-1, both in five innings.
Nicole Anderson picked up the victory and was nearly perfect in
the opener, tossing her second no-hitter of the season while
striking out 13 of 16 batters faced. Rachael Foster was the game
two winner, allowing just one hit and one run on a solo homer with
eight strikeouts.
Jamie Rausch was a perfect 5-5 with six RBI and two runs scored
to lead the Rollins (24-9) offense. Monica Meadows batted 5-7 with
three runs batted in and Christine Roser hit 5-7 with five RBI.
Game one was all Rollins from the start as they put up four runs
in each of the first three innings. Roser and Kayla McCraney each
had two- RBI singles in the first with Rollins also taking
advantage of two Benedict miscues in the frame. Missy Thogmartin,
Rausch and Lauren Starcher each knocked RBI singles and Starcher
later scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-0 after the second. In
the third, Meadows blasted a two-RBI homer and Vanessa Volkema
added an RBI double to increase the Rollins lead to 12-0. Anderson
then took over and sealed up the Rollins win.
The nightcap was put away in the first inning with Rollins
hanging 12 runs in the frame. Rabenold led off with a single to
spark the Tars big inning where they scored 11 runs before
suffering an out. In the third, Rausch and Roser each had RBI
doubles and Allison Taylor hit an RBI single to make it 16-0. The
Tigers lone run came in the fourth on a solo lead off homer.
Rollins will get back into Sunshine State Conference action on
Friday, April 4 when they will open up a home series against Nova
Southeastern. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
