WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 20, 2008) ' Three Tars would score and two would tally assists on the way to an 18-3 loss to the Lions of Mars Hill College on Thursday afternoon in the final men's lacrosse home game of the season. The Tars sink to 2-8, 0-2 in Deep South Conference action, while the Lions advance to 6-3 overall, and 1-1 in DSC play.

Leading the Tars was the junior attack duo of Drew Bernstein and Andy Katz with two points apiece. Bernstein notched one goal and one assist in the second and third quarters, while Katz assisted on both Bernstein's and Chris Gorman's tallies. Sophomores Charlie Shelly and Gorman scored one each to close out the Tars for the afternoon.

On defense, senior Alex Gauthier and freshman Tim Hill collected four ground balls apiece. Behind the pair were Katz, Andrew Cohen, Zach Cole, Steven Carr, and Peter Harvey with three ground balls each.

Mars Hill was headed up by ten players scoring goals, and eight notching assists. Tim Burns led the team in goals with four, followed by Erick Benesch with three, Danny Farmer, Christian McLean, and Parker Harrison with two apiece. Posting one each on the scoreboard was Jeff Cizdziel, Brad Campbell, and Noah Baran.

The Lions were lead in overall points by Danny Farmer and McLean, who, along with their two goals for the day, assisted on three more for a total of five points each for the afternoon. Other Mars Hill players tallying assists were David Hodgins with two, and Cizdziel, Tyler Farmer, George Hastings, Zach Rinehart, and Steve Sucha with one correspondingly.

Both teams had plenty of saves on the cage, with Rollins' Zach Cole stopping 17, and Mar Hill's Nick Sigona grabbing nine. Reserve goalie Doug O'Brien was able to get into the game in the fourth quarter to make a save for the Tars, along with the Lions' Bryce Harrison, who stopped one as well.

It was a tough day for the Tars as they watched Mars Hill pull ahead to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. In the first five minutes of the second period, the Tars trailed 4-0, but the Tars were finally able to post one up on the scoreboard with a goal from Gorman with 5:48 left in the second quarter.

Thirty seconds later, Mars Hill's Tyler Farmer would tally his only goal of the day. But, Rollins was set to make a statement in the second quarter, and with 3:04 remaining in the quarter, a quick goal from Shelly would pull the tars to within three with a score of 5-2. MHC's Noah Baran closed out the half with a final goal, and both teams entered into the locker room looking at a scoreboard that read 6-2 in favor of the Lions.

Rollins would go on to be out shot 6-1 in the third quarter, and remained scoreless in the fourth as they watched Mars Hill continue to run up the scoreboard with six more unanswered goals in the final period.

The Tars will be on the road for the remainder of their 2008 inaugural season, and will be back in action on March 28 when they travel to Belmont Abbey College to take on the Crusaders at 3:30 p.m.
