WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 15, 2008) - Sophomore
midfielder Annie Decker netted a hat trick for the Tars, scoring
her first goals of her collegiate career, in Saturday night's
contest against the University of New Haven Chargers. The Tars were
unable to outlast the Chargers, falling 17-8. The loss knocks
Rollins down to 3-6, while New Haven pulls ahead to 2-0 early in
their season.
Behind Decker were freshman Courtney Bianculli and junior Annie
Harris, who each tallied two goals for the evening. Freshman
midfielder Katy Tyszko added one more goal for the Tars with
attacker Liz Connelly adding two assists. Bianculli sprinted
through another solid game, collecting five ground balls and
causing five turnovers from stick checks. In cage, Lisa Weber
walked away from the contest with 11 saves and facing 37 shots.
The Chargers saw a lot of action from junior Mallory Ferrandiz,
who put five goals in the back of the cage for UNH. Carolina
Marrero and Brianna Kenworthy each collected a hat trick, with
Marrero collecting an assist late in the game. Freshman Ashley
Ferrandiz and junior Brigid Brady each scored two and added one
assist apiece. Kristine Lambracht and Sarah LeGoff rounded out the
Chargers' 17 goals with one each, with Lambracht assisting on a
Marrero goal in the first half.
The Tars worked hard to keep the score attainable in the first
half, tying-up the score at one after five minutes, and pulling
back to within two with a little under 12 minutes remaining. But,
the Chargers scored three unanswered goals to end the period with a
9-4 lead into halftime.
UNH began their second half the same way they wrapped-up the
first, scoring three quick goals from Ferrandiz, Brady, and
Lambracht to pull ahead to an eight point lead. In the remaining 17
minutes, the Tars would score four more goals, pulling to within
five, but the Chargers ended the game with another three goal
streak to end the game with a nine point lead over Rollins.
The Tars will be back at Showalter in their final home game of
the season on Wednesday, March 19 when they take on St. Michael's
College at 3:00 p.m.
