WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 9, 2008) ' With a doubleheader sweep over St. Thomas at Alfond Stadium on Saturday, including a 9-5 Game One win and a 9-2 Game Two victory, the Rollins baseball team has now strung together four straight wins.' The Tars improved to 4-2 with the series sweep, while the Bobcats fell to 1-3.

Freshman Matt White (1-0) got the start for Rollins in the first game, lasting five and a third innings while giving up four runs, one earned, in the winning effort.' Sophomore Robbie Pagano allowed one run over the next two and two thirds, and sophomore Bobby Coster finished the final inning for his first save of the year.' St. Thomas starter Jose Mendoza was credited with the loss, giving up seven runs, six earned, through six innings.' Junior left fielder Ryan Maddern and senior center fielder Corey Whiting each had three hits in Game One, leading the streaking Tars offense to nine runs.' Maddern and senior first baseman Stefano Foggi highlighted the onslaught with back-to-back solo homeruns in the eighth.

Sophomore Marc Hewett (1-0) took the mound in Game Two, and he went the distance, giving up just two runs, one earned, through seven innings for the complete game win.' Bobcats starter Jhonny Montoya (0-1) gave up five early runs, leading to a loss in his first game this year.' St. Thomas pitchers had a tough time finding the plate in the second game, walking seven Rollins batters and hitting four with pitches.' Senior designated hitter Gene Howard went 2-3 with two runs and three RBI, highlighted by a two-run single in the sixth.' Senior third baseman Gary Martoccio also had a good day at the plate, walking three times and coming around to score each time.
