PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 8, 2008) ' The 24th
ranked Rollins softball team began their 2008 season with a split
against West Florida in day one of the GSC/SSC Crossover in
Pensacola. The Tars won the opener 2-1, but dropped the night cap
6-0.
Nicole Anderson picked up the game one victory, throwing all
seven innings and allowing three hits and one unearned run with
nine strikeouts. Christine Roser had the big bat for the Tars,
leading off the fifth with a solo homer to highlight a 2-3 night.
In game two, Kayla McCraney went 2-3 while Lauren Starcher and
Rachael Foster each picked up a hit. Foster was saddled with the
loss, allowing seven hits and six runs, four earned, with six
strikeouts.
In the opener, West Florida scored their lone run in the first,
taking advantage of a one-out error and passed two out passed ball.
The Tars evened it up in the fifth behind Roser's dinger. Later in
the inning, Missy Thogmartin hit a single to center and was
replaced on the base paths by Morgan Frost. Rachael Foster smacked
a double and Sheri Rabenold walked to load the bases with one out.
Lauren Starcher then worked a walk for the RBI and eventual game
winning run.
The nightcap was all West Florida as the Argos rolled up six
runs, half of which came in the seventh inning. They scored one in
the fourth and two in the fifth before the big seventh.
Rollins (1-1) will continue play at the Gulf South/Sunshine
State Conference Crossover on Saturday, February 9 against
Alabama-Huntsville. First pitch for game one of the double header
is slated for 1 p.m.
