PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 9, 2008) ' The
Alabama Huntsville Chargers routed the Rollins softball team in
both games of the doubleheader this afternoon. The Chargers took
the first game 10-0 and the second contest 5-4 at the GSC/SSC
Crossover.
The Tars gave up seven runs in just the first inning of game one
as Nicole Anderson gave up the loss, tossing five innings giving up
10 runs on seven hits. Only three Tars tallied hits in the first
game as Sherri Rabenold, Monica Meadows and Jamie Rausch each
notched one hit a piece.
Freshman Alex Lewis picked up the game one win for
Alabama-Huntsville (9-0) as she only gave up three hits on the
afternoon. Left fielder Kristina Prater registered one run on two
hits and three RBI, while centerfielder Blanchard had two runs on
two hits for the Chargers.
The second game of the doubleheader went to extra innings as
Rachael Foster pitched 8.2 innings, throwing 11 strikeouts and
giving up five runs on seven hits. Shortstop Lauren Starcher and
second baseman Meadows had two hits a piece while five more Tars
totaled one hit each. The Chargers defeated the Tars in the bottom
of the ninth inning when Sydney Simpson doubled to centerfield and
Marilyn Cooper singled down the left field line.
Rollins (1-3) will finish out play at the Gulf South/Sunshine
State Conference Crossover on Sunday, February'10 against Delta
State. First pitch for game one of the double header is slated for
11:00 a.m.
