No. 10 Tars Dismantle No. 40 Lions For Second Straight Win

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 19, 2008) ' Dropping only one match on the afternoon, the No. 10 Rollins women's tennis team defeated the Saint Leo Lions 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex.

The Tars (2-0) swept the doubles portion of the day as No. 1 Marnie Mahler and Roshni Luthra rolled past Lina Benkirane and Asmaa Tazi 8-2. Margaret Junker and Sonia Bernal had an easy time against Shaena Keefe and Gina Schifano 8-1 in second seed action. Silvia Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko routed Taylor Cleaves and Veronica Queen at the No. 3 position.

No. 27 Mahler defeated Benkirane 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot as Bernal dropped her first match of the '08 season falling to Tazi 6-0, 3-6 (3) in the second seed. Shevchenko improved to 2-0 with a win over Keefe 6-2, 6-1 in the third slot, while Luthra dispatched of Queen 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4. Junker won her match at the No. 5 in straight sets over Schifano 6-1, 6-0 and Frandji rounded out the winning for the Tars with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Cleaves 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 6.

Rollins will be back in action on Thursday, February 21 when they host the Florida Tech Panthers at 3:30 p.m.
