WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 18, 2008) - The
Rollins men's tennis team easily dispatched of No. 39 Florida Tech
9-0 in their conference home opener at the Bert Martin Tennis
Complex.
In doubles action, 13th-ranked Brian Compton and Jonathan Gomez
won their third consecutive match against D.J. Pate and James
McLane 8-0 in the first spot. Pablo Seijo and Gustavo Carvalho
overcame Joel Zahlan and Drew Hollin 9-7 in the No. 2, while Adrian
Tan and Bill Rockwood dismantled Jonathan Hanna and Yan Carlo
Rodriguez 8-3 in the third seed.
All six singles matches ended in straight set victories for the
Tars. Compton dropped only one game against Xavier Landazuri 6-0,
6-1 in the top slot, while Gomez rolled against Hanna 6-3, 6-2 in
the No. 2. Tan routed Pate in the third match against Pate 6-2, 6-3
and Seijo wouldn't lose a game against Fowler 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4
spot. Carvalho defeated McLane 6-2, 6-4 in the fifth seed and
Austin Duvall finished out the Rollins' scoring with a win over
Zahlan 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 6.
The Tars (2-1) will be back in action on Thursday, February 21
when they travel to Daytona Beach to take on the Embry Riddle
Eagles at 4:00 p.m.
