Men's At a Glance...
After one the of biggest wins in school history, the Rollins
men's basketball looks to continue its winning ways against its
Puerto Rico-Bayamon, Monday night at Warden Arena.
Rollins is fresh off its 17-point thrashing of Division I
affiliate Green Bay Phoenix at the 2008 Glenn Wilkes Classic,
Friday. With the win, the Tars improve to 3-0 on the season and 4-0
all-time against current Horizon League members.
The Tars have defeated one other Puerto Rico school already this
season in a 44-point pounding over P.R.-Cayey, Nov. 20. Rollins
owns a 3-0 record all-time against the Cowboys and have not lost to
a Puerto Rico school since Nov. 19, 2003 in a 72-71 loss against
Puerto Rico-Piedras.
Rollins' Jeremy Sharpe continues to lead the offense, averaging
19.3 points per game and shooting nearly 60 percent from the field
and 8-for-18 from behind the 3-point line. Senior transfer Zachary
Pancratz follows with 13 ppg, but has registered a team-high 12
assists during his first campaign at Rollins.
For his efforts, Sharpe was awarded the Sunshine State
Conference Player of the Week.
Defensively, senior Craig Reichel has a team-best five blocks
and 21 rebounds, 18 on the defensive end to help the Tars hold
their opponents to a 33.3 shooting percentage.
For the Cowboys, they dropped their season opener against Saint
Leo, 75-59 and look to get back on track against the Tars. Guard
Melvin Rivera is the point leader with 17, while Bryan Morales
follows with 13.
During last year's contest, Rollins defeated Puerto
Rico-Bayamon, 101-73 as Kevin Hogan scored 25 points to lead the
Tars. Rivera scored the game-high 29 points in the Cowboys' losing
effort.
Women's At a Glance...
Rollins looks to add to their three
game winning streak as they face the Cowgirls from Puerto
Rico-Bayamon. The Tars are coming off a dominating performance
against Puerto Rico-Cayey Thursday night, 76-20. The Cowgirls come
into tonights game having played Eckerd Saturday afternoon, losing
80-60.
Against the Lady Bulls Julie Gorman
and Erink Kirkwood led all scorers with 10 points. Jessica Pressley
and Rachael Malatesta combined 5-7 from behind the arc to help the
Tars get by Puerto Rico-Cayey. Jessica Barker pulled down eight
rebounds in the contest. Freshmen point gaurd Paris Moore collected
three assists and eight points.
UPR-Bayamon is coming off a 20 point
loss against the Eckerd Tritons Saturday afternoon. Angelie Morales
led the Cowgirls with 19 points and three rebounds. Karla Krause
was active on the glass as she collected seven rebounds for the
Cowgirls.
Tonight's matchup will be the
seventh times these two teams have met with the Tars holding a 5-1
edge in the series
The Tars were picked to finish fifth
in the Sunshine State Conference preseason poll. Rollins finished
8-8 in conference play last season.
Head Coach Glenn Wilkes is entering
his 23rd season as head coach of the Tars. Wilkes is approaching
the 500 victory mark and should obtain it this season as he only
needs 10 more wins.
After tonight's game, Rollins will
host Fort Lewis College on Friday, November 28 at 2:00 p.m. in
Warden Arena.
