WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (November 19, 2008)
Rollins held Palm Beach Atlantic to just 11 first
half points and cruised in the second frame, downing the Sailfish
76-44 Wednesday night.
Jessica Pressley led three Tars (2-0) in double figures with 16
points behind 4-6 shooting from long range. Ines Teuma added 14
points and a game high nine rebounds with Kourtnie Berry chipping
in 10.
Selethia Jackson paced PBA (1-1) with seven points and nine
rebounds while Sitara Richard added six points.
It was all Rollins in the first half as the Tars shot to the
tune of 54 percent (15-28) while holding their hosts to just 12
percent (3-16) from the field.
Rollins went up 12-4 over the first five minutes with Teuma
scoring two transition buckets in the span. A pair of Loren Wilkins
free throws at the 11:34 mark kept the lead at eight, 16-8, but the
Sailfish wouldn't score again for the next six minutes, allowing
Rollins to run up a 24 point lead, 32-8 with 5:50 to go. After a
few PBA buckets, Jasmine Bradley hit a runner in the lane with 11
ticks left for the Tars to push the lead to 36-11 at the break.
The Tars came out firing in the second half as two Rachael
Malatesta three pointers and another by Berry ballooned Rollins'
lead to 30, 49-19 with 15 minutes to go. A 12-4 run put the Tars in
command by 37 at the eight minute mark and the advantage would grow
to as much as 40 late in the game.
The Tars ended the game shooting 48 percent and held PBA to 23
percent while also winning the battle on the boards 49-35.
Rollins will be back in action on Thursday, November 20 as they
will cap of a men's/women's doubleheader against Puerto Rico Cayey
