WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Sophomore right
side hitter Caitlin Vyborny guided the Tars with a .360
attacking percentage and 13 kills to help Rollins Head Coach Sindee
Snow capture her 150th win in a 3-1 (25-22, 25-13, 25-21,
27-25) victory over host Palm Beach Atlantic in non-conference
action, Tuesday evening at Rubin Arena.
Snow has a career record of 150-117 during her eight years at
the helm of Rollins volleyball.
With the win, Rollins (15-8) ended its three-match losing skid
backed by a .221 attacking percentage. Joining Vyborny with 13
kills was senior outside hitter Stephanie
Nichols. Junior outside hitter Nikki
Hartman finished the trio of double-digit performers with
12.
Defensively, the Tars limited the Sailfish (8-10) to a .144
attacking percentage and recorded 13 blocks as a team, a
season-high. Vyborny proved her versatility with a team-best six
blocks. Contributing to Rollins defensive pursuit was freshman
libero Phoebe Corder's 21 digs. She continues to lead
the conference, averaging 5.16 per set.
In the first frame, the Tars trailed by as many as four points
before tying the match at 15. Rollins captured the next three
points, which included a Natalie Branche kill and was succeeded by a
pair of Palm Beach Atlantic Attacking errors. Leading 18-15, the
Sailfish cut the deficit to one, but could not overcome Rollins'
lead, while the Tars closed out the first set 25-22.
PBA stormed back in the second stanza behind middle Brittany
Erickson's five kills as the Sailfish hit .226 to capture the 25-13
win.
After the intermission, Rollins took the third set after
building a six point lead at 16-10. Palm Beach Atlantic slowly cut
into the Tars' lead as they cut the deficit in half at 21-18.
After exchanging two points each, Nichols recorded Rollins final
two points with a pair of kills.
Leading 2-1, the Tars secured the victory as they needed extra
points to put PBA away. The Tars took its biggest lead in the
frame at 13-9, before a run by PBA tied the match at 15. Rollins
extended its lead to two at 19-17, which included a Hartman kill
and a followed by an attacking error by the Sailfish. Neither
team would be able to shake the other as both teams had set point
opportunities, before the Tars capitalized on a Chrissy Gulden
attacking error to capture the match.
PBA was led by Brittany Erickson's match-high 19 kills and .378
attacking percentage. Setter Emily Ryerson paced the Sailfish with
39 assists.
Rollins returns to action as heads back into conference play,
Friday at 7 p.m. against Florida Tech at Melbourne, Fla.
