LAKE WALES, Fla. (October 27, 2008)
- Rollins picked up its fifth shutout of the season on
Monday evening against the Royals of Warner Southern, 1-0. The
Royals and Tars were both looking for a win and the game ended up
being a defensive struggle.
The Tars attacked first on the scoreboard as
Stephen Wright was able to get a strong shot off that beat keeper
Josh Havens on the far post. Jacob Deloach was able to collect his
fifth assist of the season on the play. This is all the offense the
Tars would need to keep the clean sheet win. Stephen Wright was an
impact player tonight as he made big plays on the offensive end
with four shots and also making key defensive stops. Tonight's win
was a total team effort as the Tars were able to assert their style
of play on Warner Southern.
With the win the Rollins men improved to 7-9
overall, 3-4 in SSC play. Tonight's victory will give the Tars much
needed confidence and momentum heading into the regular season
finale against Barry. The Tars need a win against the Bucs to keep
their tournament hopes alive.
Tars keeper Aaron Rokeach was the victor, picking
up his fifth shutout of the year not letting anything through on
five shots. The Tars defense was up to the task all night as none
of the five shots made their way to Rokeach or the frame.
The second half saw the Tars and Royals playing
back and forth on attacks, but neither team could get a tally. The
attacks for both sides picked up in the closing minutes of the
game, but the teams did not score.
The Tars will take on Barry University on October
31st in Miami Shores, Florida. This is a must win game for the Tars
as it will allow them to get to .500 in conference play and keep
their tournament hopes alive.
