WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 19, 2008) - Senior
Jennifer Musgrove hit her 1,000 career point to help the Tars to a
68-63 win during the SSC showdown between seventh ranked Rollins
College and the number one ranked Lynn University.' The win brings
Rollins to 10-4, 2-3, while the Lynn Fighting Knights drop to 14-3,
5-1 in the SSC.
Four Tars scored in double-digits, with Musgrove leading the
pack.' She would post 20 points, and add 2 blocks and 2 steals.'
Sophomore fireball Jessica Pressley lit-up the scoreboard with 15
points for the Tars shooting 5-9 field goals, completing 3-4 from
long range.' Rachael Malatesta had a solid day adding 12 points for
the Tars, sinking a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe, while Ines
Teuma walked away with the game's only double-double, tallying 11
points and 12 boards.
The Fighting Knights relied heavily on the work of junior
powerhouse Jade Williams as she posted 29 points.' Rachel Brockman
contributed the second highest tally for Lynn with 11 points for
the day, and shared the team high 9 boards with teammate Liz
Roth.
The game remained scoreless for the first 2 minutes, but a layup
from Williams got the ball moving in both directions.' The Fighting
Knights would lead for two more minutes before a jumper from
Musgrove would get the Tars on the board and tie the score at 2
with a little over 15 minutes left in the first half.
With a little under 10 minutes left in the first half, the Tars
were up 16-6 thanks to a little help from Pressley who sank 3-3
shots from long range in a little under four minutes.' Lynn was not
about to go down without a fight, answering back with a seven point
retaliation that would advance them to thirteen in just two minutes
of play.
It was a back and forth battle over the following minutes, with
both teams firing shots through the net.' With just under four
minutes left in the first, Lynn pulled ahead by one with a 3 point
drop from Cara Dolci to give the Fighting Knights the lead with
23-22.'
Rollins would counter Lynn's strong attack to tie the score, and
then pull ahead to continue on a nine point sprint to end the half
32-23.' Musgrove's seven points in the first half would leave her
seven away from her career record.
The Tars ran the show in the next half, pulling ahead by 11 with
15 minutes left from a Musgrove layup.' Lynn would strike back
scoring 10 points in two minutes to give Rollins an uncomfortable
one point lead, but with a clutch layup from Staci Rossi the Tars
were back in action.' Musgrove would follow Rossi's layup with a
one of her own, and on her next run down the court would sink a
fading three pointer that would tally her 1,000 career point.
The Tars would press forward to an 11 point lead two more times
in the remainder of the second half with the Fighting Knights in
pursuit, pulling to within four in the waning moments of the game.'
Rollins remained on top despite Lynn's best efforts to grab a hold
of the lead, walking away with a huge win over the number one team
in the conference.
Rollins will be back in action on January 23 as they travel to
SSC opponent Barry who is currently 11-5, 2-3 in the conference.'
Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.' Fans can listen to all of the
