ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (January 12, 2008) -- The
Rollins women's basketball team jumped out to a 45-12 first half
lead and cruised to a 64-40 victory at Flagler in non-conference
action on Saturday.' The Tars improved to 9-3 with the win, while
the Saints dropped to 3-13 with the loss.
Junior forward Ines Teuma led the way for Rollins with 11 points
and nine rebounds, including seven of each in the first half.'
Sophomore forward Brittainy Daiger added 10 points, eight rebounds,
and two blocks, and junior forward Jocelyn Kelly came off the bench
to score nine points with five rebounds and four blocks.' Senior
guard Jennifer Musgrove scored seven to go along with six rebounds
and a game-high seven assists.
Rollins used hot shooting on its end and cold shooting from
Flagler to jump ahead 22-4 in the game's first nine minutes.' The
Tars finished the first half 17-33 from the floor (51.5 percent),
compared to just 4-38 from the Saints (10.5 percent).' Rollins was
also hot from three-point range (6-8), including two treys each
from Kelly and sophomore guard Jessica Pressley.
With six unanswered points to open the second half, Rollins held
on to a game-high 39-point lead with 17:18 left in the game.'
Flagler improved from that point on, as the Saints went on a 12-4
run to cut the lead to 31.' Flagler's improved shooting resulted in
a 28-19 lead over the Tars in the second half.' With the dominating
lead, Rollins used many of its reserves in the second half,
shooting 7-24 (29.2 percent).
The Tars finished the game 24-57 from the field (42.1 percent),
but they struggled from the free throw line, shooting 10-25 (40.0
percent).' Rollins also held a 51-48 advantage in rebounds, but
Flagler turned the ball over 19 times to the opponents' 24.
Rollins will return to Sunshine State Conference play at home on
Wednesday, January 16 at 5:30 p.m against Nova Southeastern.' Fans
