WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 9, 2007) ' The
Rollins women's soccer team coasted to a 5-0 victory over NAIA
opponent Thomas on Sunday afternoon at Barker Family Stadium. The
Tars evened their record at 3-3, while the Night Hawks fell to
1-3.
Five different players scored for Rollins, and senior Jeri Ostuw
and freshman Mellissa Doerk each had one goal and one assist.
Freshman Chelsea Brady, junior Jessica Mooney, and freshman Meagan
Thomas were the other goal-scorers, and freshman Jessica Deese
added two assists.
The first goal came in the 13th minute on a corner kick. The
ball was played into the penalty area on a corner kick by Deese,
and Mooney was there to deflect it past the Thomas keeper and into
the net. The score remained at 1-0 in Rollins' favor going into
halftime, but the Tars kicked it up a notch in the second half. The
scoring started with Brady in the 52nd minute, assisted by Doerk on
a rebound, and Meagan Thomas came back with an unassisted goal two
minutes later. Doerk scored her goal in the 67th minute, and she
was assisted by Ostuw and Deese. The final goal came from Ostuw on
a long shot from outside the penalty area.
Freshman keeper Stina Lykke Petersen saved four shots on her way
to her first career shutout for the Tars. Thomas goalkeeper
Brittany Wilkinson registered seven saves for the Night Hawks.
Rollins dominated the game, out-shooting the Night Hawks 22-4.
The Tars also held the corner kick advantage 8-1.
The Tars will return to Barker Family Stadium on Wednesday,
September 12 for their last non-conference game before Sunshine
State Conference play begins. Rollins will be hosting Embry-Riddle
at 7:00 p.m., and fans can watch and listen on the Tars Sports
