PENSACOLA, Fla. (September 8, 2007) ' The Tars
volleyball team lost both matches in the first day of play at the
West Florida Regional Crossover on Saturday afternoon. Rollins fell
to the Northern Michigan Wildcats 3-1 (30-28, 26-30, 30-26, 30-23)
in the first match and then 3-0 to the West Florida Argonauts
(30-22, 30-19, 30-25) in the second match.
On the afternoon, senior Christina Reinders led all scorers with
24 kills and 14 digs. Lorena Orlandini had 20 kills with Piper
Young taking home 18 kills and Stephanie Nichols with 19. Setter
Lacey Malarky totaled 73 assists on the day and libero Kim Cline
dug 48 balls for the Tars.
In the first match against Northern Michigan, four Tars totaled
kills in double figures. Senior Piper Young led things off with 16
kills and 23 digs. Stephanie Nichols and Reinders each tallied 14
kills and nine digs. Rounding out the double-digit scorers was
right-side Lorena Orlandini who had 12 kills.
The Tars couldn't keep pace with the Argos in the second match,
but Reinders controlled the offense with 10 kills. Orlandini
notched eight kills and eight digs for the Tars.
The Tars (6-5) will be back in action tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
(Eastern Standard Time) when they take on Southern Arkansas
followed by Albany State at 12:15 p.m. Fans can log onto the
