MELBOURNE, Fla. (September 29, 2007) ' After
110 minutes of play in the Rollins women's soccer team's Sunshine
State Conference battle against Florida Tech at Rick Stottler Field
on Saturday afternoon, neither team had found the net and the game
ended in a scoreless tie.' The Tars now stand at 5-5-1 overall and
1-2-1 in SSC play, and the Panthers now have a record of 5-3-1,
0-2-1.
Rollins out-shot Florida Tech 23-7 through regulation, including
15 shots in the second half when the Tars had the wind behind
them.' The Tars had many scoring opportunities in the second half,
including a shot off the crossbar by senior forward Jeri Ostuw in
the 63rd minute.
After less than one minute into the first overtime period, the
teams were called off the field because of thunderstorms in the
area.' A delay of more than an hour followed, and the teams
returned to the field to finish the game.
Rollins continued to out-shoot the Panthers in overtime,
attempting five in the first overtime period and three in the
second.' The final shot count was 31-9 in favor of the Tars, and
they also held an 8-2 corner kick advantage.
Each team's goalkeeper had a fine game, as Stina Lykke Petersen
tallied five saves for Rollins and Melissa Pyles stopped 11 shots
for the Panthers.
The Tars will return home for an SSC contest against Eckerd on
