WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 26, 2007) ' A 12th
minute score by Tampa proved to be the game's lone goal in the
Rollins women's soccer team's 0-1 loss to the fifth-ranked Spartans
at Barker Family Stadium on Wednesday night. The Tars dropped to
5-5 overall and 1-2 in Sunshine State Conference play, and the
Spartans improved to 7-1-1, 1-0 in their first SSC contest.
The game-winner came off the foot of Courtney Evans at the 11:29
mark after some chaotic play in front of the Rollins net. Shelby
Kuni touched the ball to Evans on the right side through a crowd of
players, and Evans was there to put it by Rollins freshman
goalkeeper Stina Lykke Petersen.
Lykke Petersen saved six shots in goal for the Tars. Tampa
goalkeeper Shannon Aitken stopped four shots in her sixth shutout
of the season.
Rollins played the Spartans tough, out-shooting them 15-13.
Tampa dictated the pace of the first half, attempting eight shots
to the Tars' four, but Rollins came out in the second half
determined to tie the game. Rollins attempted nine shots in the
second frame compared to seven for the Spartans. The Tars also held
an 8-1 corner kick advantage in the game, with five coming in the
second half.
The Tars will return to SSC play on Saturday, September 29 at
Florida Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., and fans can
