Rollins Thwarted by No. 23 Saint Leo in Overtime

SAINT LEO, Fla. (September 22, 2007) ' The Rollins women's soccer team struck first, but No. 23 Saint Leo scored two unanswered, the second coming in the waning moments of overtime, to hand the Tars a 2-1 Sunshine State Conference loss on Saturday night.

Rollins drops to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in SSC play while Saint Leo improves to 6-2, 2-1.

Lindsay Giblin notched her conference best ninth goal of the year to push her point total to 23. With the game scoreless in the final seconds of the first half, Jessica Mooney won a header in the midfield and drove it forward to a streaking Giblin who slipped it past Lions keeper Lauren Hudson.'

Saint Leo scored the equalizer in the 47th minute as Hudson sent a long ball to the midfield that was flicked ahead by Chrissy Darwell to Hanna Beard. The Lions forward then won a one-on-one with Tars keeper Stina Lykke Petersen to make the score 1-1.

Both teams then went scoreless for the rest of the period to force extra time.

In the final moments of the first overtime, Darwell sent a ball to midfielder Evelina Viiri who then one touched it to Beard for the shot and goal to give the host Lions the win.

Rollins led on the shot chart 13-10, but was hampered by a lopsided foul count, 23-7. Lykke Petersen recorded two stops between the posts while her counterpart Hudson racked up three saves.

Rollins will look to bounce back on Wednesday, September 26 when they will host fourth ranked Tampa at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field.
