HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (September 2, 2007) ' The
Rollins women's soccer team won their second game in a row, a 4-1
victory over regional opponent Alabama-Huntsville, on Sunday
night.' The Tars improved to 2-2 with the win, while the Chargers
fell to 1-2.
Junior Lindsay Giblin scored the game's first goal for Rollins
in the 17th minute thanks to assists from freshman Leah Hirsch and
sophomore Joy Powell.' Rollins out-shot the Chargers 12-8 in the
first half, but they entered the break with a slim 1-0 lead.
Giblin scored her second goal of the game and fourth of the
season in the 51st minute after a long ball from freshman Meagan
Thomas in the back line.' UAH got on the board with a goal from Ina
Wam Bjorklid in the 72nd minute, with assists from Kelly McAlear
and Lindsay Lee, to narrow the deficit to one.' Rollins returned
the favor in the 74th minute on a goal by freshman Chelsea Brady,
who was assisted by fellow freshman Jessica Deese.' The Tars scored
their fourth of the day on a corner kick; Giblin took the kick from
the left corner, and freshman Marie Sapper was in position to
volley the ball past UAH goalkeeper Annika Mehrtens.
Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Woelfel notched seven saves
between the posts for Rollins while allowing the one goal.'
Mehrtens allowed four goals and saved six shots.
The Tars out-shot UAH by the count of 20-13.' The Tars also
attempted five corner kicks while the Chargers were not awarded
one.
Rollins will return to Florida for an important regional match
