WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 15, 2007) ' The Rollins women's soccer team started the Sunshine State Conference season with a bang, defeating Barry 4-0 at Barker Family Stadium on Saturday night. Rollins improved to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in SSC play, and the Buccaneers dropped to 3-3, 0-1.

The usual suspects led the way for the Rollins offense, with junior Lindsay Giblin and freshmen Chelsea Brady and Jessica Deese each scoring goals. Giblin scored two to increase her team-leading total to eight, and she also added her fifth assist of the year. Brady scored her fifth and Deese scored her third. Three more freshman picked up assists, as midfielders Leah Hirsch, Kelsey Kimmel, and Marie Sapper factored into the attack.

Rollins got on the board first on a penalty kick by Giblin in the 14th minute. The score remained 1-0 going into halftime, but the Tars were eager to open up the game in the second half. Deese scored at the 57:48 mark off an assist by Giblin to push the score to 2-0. The Tars added to their lead with Giblin's 82nd minute goal, receiving assists from Kimmel and Sapper on a header past the keeper. The final goal came three minutes later, as Hirsh sent a long clearance to Brady making a run onto goal, and Brady was able to beat the keeper one on one before sending it into the net.

Freshman goalkeeper Stina Lykke Petersen made two saves in goal to help the Tars to the shutout. Barry goalkeeper Kelly Tryson saved seven shots for the Buccaneers.

The Tars pressured the Barry defense all game, attempting 33 shots compared to just nine for the Buccaneers. Rollins also held a 7-2 corner kick advantage.

The win marked the first time that the Rollins women's soccer team had defeated the historically dominant Buccaneers. The Tars now have a record of 1-11-2 against Barry in the all-time series.

Rollins will go on the road to continue the SSC season in a game at Saint Leo on Saturday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m.
