WINTER PARK, Fla. (August 29, 2007) ' The
Rollins volleyball team bounced back from a 1-3 record at the
Hawaiian Style Classic with a big win over New York Tech 3-0
(30-13, 30-19, 30-18) on Wednesday evening at the Warden Arena.
Senior Christina Reinders led all scorers with 13 kills, five
aces and seven digs. Three Tars, Lorena Orlandini, Jenny Sherwood
and Piper Young, notched five kills a piece. Libero Kim Cline
tallied a team-high eight digs, and Lacey Malarky totaled 31
assists in the Tars first home match of '07.
It was all Rollins in the first game as they went up by as many
as 15 points (22-7). The Tars forced the Bears to commit most of
the errors, only allowing them six more points in the game
(30-13).
In game two, the Tars built another commanding lead and at
25-15, freshman Sherwood came up with a block, followed by a kill.
That propelled the Tars to a decisive second game win (30-19).
The final game started off closely as Rollins gave playing time
to several newcomers. With the score tied 14-14, Reinders pounded a
kill, which began a four-point streak (18-14). Reinders served up
three aces and it was enough for the Tars (2-3) to come out on top
(30-18).
Daria Skrypka, Dena McKinney and Shelby Klein each had six kills
for the Bears.
Rollins will be back in action on Friday, August 31 and
Saturday, September 1 as they play host at the Rollins College
Volleyball Invitational. Seven teams will participate including
Alabama-Huntsville, Barry, Colorado Christian, Lynn, Michigan Tech
and St. Mary's University. Matches will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the
