TAMPA, Fla. (August 26, 2007) ' The Rollins
women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 setback to No. 21 Columbus St.
on a stifling Sunday afternoon in Tampa. The Tars drop to 0-2 on
the young season while the Cougars even their record to 1-1.
Freshman Chelsea Brady notched her first career goal as fellow
youngster Mellissa Doerk hooked up with Brady in the 81st minute
for the score. Stephanie Woelfel played all 90 minutes between the
posts, grabbing four saves.
The Tars out-shot the Cougars 12-10 in the contest with each
team getting four corner kicks. CSU's aggressive play led to a
lopsided 18-6 mark in fouls.
Columbus State started the scoring in the 17th minute as Melinda
Bush laid a cross in the box and Hanna Ospina put a diving header
into the back of the net. Two minutes later, Gina Goforth took a
pass from Stephanie Parrish and fired it past a diving Woelfel to
make the score 2-0. Ospina notched her second goal of the game on a
bang, bang play in the 77th minute to give the Cougars a commanding
3-0 lead.
Rollins got on the board with Brady's score in the 81st minute,
making the final score 3-1.
The Tars will take the pitch again on Friday, August 31 at
Montevallo to begin a weekend swing in Alabama. Rollins will match
up with the Falcons at 6 p.m. before traveling up the road to
Alabama-Huntsville at 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 2. Both games can
