MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (May 3, 2007) ' The Tars
men's tennis team seemed to have no trouble dispatching
Presbyterian in the first round of the Southeast Regional
Tournament hosted by Barry University. Rollins (19-8) took out
Presbyterian 5-2 on Thursday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis
Complex.
The Tars swept all three doubles matches with No. 1 seeds Brian
Compton and Jonathan Gomez coming out on top against Aaron Chapman
and Matthew Martin 9-8. Gustavo Carvalho and Pablo Seijo bettered
their season record to 9-3 as they defeated Zach Glankler and
Andrew Lee 8-5 in the second seeded bout. The SSC second team duo
of Adrian Tan and Michael Schwartz ran past Patrick Fediuk and
Michael Nicol 8-6 in the No. 3 position.
In singles action, Compton was routed by Chapman 6-3, 6-1 in the
top spot, while Gomez and Seijo won their matches in the No. 3 and
No. 4 spot respectively. Gomez overpowered Ruan Olivier 6-1, 6-3
and Seijo beat Nicol 6-4, 6-4 to seal the first round victory for
the Tars. The remaining singles matches went unfinished on the
afternoon.
Rollins will be back in action tomorrow against Barry University
in the second round of the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships.
Play will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex.
