BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 28,
2007) - Walk-off homeruns, four-run comebacks, and
defensive replacements were only the beginning in a chaotic
doubleheader between Rollins and No. 27 Lynn at the McCusker
Sportsplex on Saturday afternoon, but the end result was nothing
more than a split, with Lynn taking Game One 10-9 and Rollins
winning Game Two 7-6.' Rollins avoided the series sweep and left
with a 25-25 record overall and 9-12 in Sunshine State Conference
play, while Lynn now stands at 32-20, 13-8.
Freshman designated hitter Scott
Chase was once again the driving force for Rollins on offense,
hitting 5-7 in the two games with four runs and three RBI.'
Freshman second baseman Ryan Luker (5-9, two runs) and junior
center fielder Corey Whiting (4-8, one double, one triple, three
runs, two RBI) also had good days at the plate for the Tars.
The Rollins offense was hot to begin
Game One, as the Tars jumped out to a 5-2 lead through the first
five and a half innings.' Lynn began a multi-inning rally in the
bottom of the sixth, scoring one, two, three, and two runs in each
of the last four innings respectively.' With two runners on and two
outs in the top of the ninth, an error by Lynn shortstop Chad Crowe
opened the doors for a four-run Rollins rally.' Chase brought home
the first two on a single down the left field line, sophomore
outfielder Jesse More singled home one more, and the fourth came
home on a wild pitch.' The Tars led 9-8 going into the bottom of
the inning, but a triple by left fielder Ryan Sharman and a two-run
walk-off homerun by second baseman Ricky Gerena won Game One for
the Fighting Knights.' Sophomore reliever Mike Stopperich (0-1) was
credited with the loss.
Lynn jumped out to a 5-0 lead through
four innings in Game Two, but the Tars comeback started with three
in the fifth.' Senior shortstop Ryan McKenzie singled the first run
home, sophomore utility player Anthony Soto singled home the
second, and Chase singled home the third.' Down by two in the
seventh, Rollins put four on the board to take a two-run lead.'
Freshman Ryan Kreh scored on a wild pitch after entering the game
as a pinch runner, and junior third baseman Kevin Schnacke doubled
with the bases loaded to bring home the final three.' Lynn scored
one in the bottom of the inning, but sophomore reliever Mark
Jigarjian came in to retire the final batter and picked up his
first save of the year.' Freshman reliever Robbie Pagano (2-0)
earned the win out of the bullpen.
Rollins will finish its SSC season with
a trip to Tampa to take on the defending NCAA Division II national
champion Spartans.' The series will start on Friday, May 4 at 7:00
p.m., and fans can listen to all the action live on the Tars Sports
Network at www.RollinsSports.com.
