WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 21, 2007) ' The
Rollins softball team played two tremendous defensive games as they
blew past Lynn University 2-1 in the first game and 1-0 in game two
action on Saturday afternoon at Lake Island Park.
Leading the way for the Tars (35-10, 10-5) was Amanda DeFilippo
who went 3-5 on the afternoon hitting her fifth double of the
season. Jamie Rausch also had a big afternoon going 2-5 with three
RBI and also tallying her second triple and fifth homerun.'
In Game One, Ingrid Schumacher took her place in the circle
pitching 6.1 innings giving up one run on four hits and seven
strikeouts. Schumacher was taken out of the game in the top of the
seventh inning and replaced by Nicole Anderson who was able to
complete'her first'save for the Tars.
The fourth inning was prime time for scoring for both teams. In
Lynn's half of the inning, left fielder Lucy Wilkinson singled to
left field sending catcher Kathleen Smith home and giving the
Fighting Knights a 1-0 lead. In the Rollins portion of the fourth,
senior Stacy Sanders doubled to center field, followed by DeFilippo
singling to left field sending Sanders to third base. Rausch hit a
clutch triple clearing the bases and giving the Tars the 2-1 lead
and eventual victory.
Nicole Anderson (23-8) took to the mound in the second game in
another stellar showing. She pitched a four-hitter striking out 12.
Anderson has 304 strikeouts on the season, only 16 short of the
Rollins single season record. Rausch made the only contribution to
the scoreboard has she notched her fifth homerun this season.
Kara Henderson (7-22) picked up both losses in today's game, as
well as yesterday's game for the Fighting Knights (15-343-18).
The Tars will be back in action on Tuesday, April 24 and
Wednesday, April 25 as they travel to Saint Leo to take on the
Lions in a' mid-week. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
