No. 17 Tars Rout No. 7 Mocs For Second Time This Season

TAMPA, Fla. (April 20, 2007) ' In their second match-up of the season, the Rollins men's tennis team took out 7th ranked Florida Southern 5-3 on Friday afternoon at the Hillsborough Community College Tennis Complex. The win sends the Tars to the SSC Finals where they will take on the Lynn University Fighting Knights.

The Tars (18-7) swept all three doubles matches giving them a solid cushion going into the singles portion of play. Brian Compton and Jonathan Gomez tallied their third straight win as a pair as they defeated Michael Knoedler and Alex Thesleff 8-5 in the top spot. In the No. 2 Gustavo Carvalho and Pablo Seijo overwhelmed Isaac Galindo and Roman Schirmaier 8-6. Adrian Tan and Michael Schwartz rounded out the Tars' doubles victories by running past Guenther Fercher and Justin LaFlamme 8-5.

Rollins took the No. 3 and No. 5 singles matches to seal the win for the Tars which will now send them to the SSC Championship finals against Lynn University. Gomez won his bout against Schirmaier 6-3, 7-6 in the third position, and Seijo finished off Fercher in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in the fifth seed. Tan, Brian Compton and Albin Hubscher fell in their matches, while Carvalho's fourth seed match went unfinished.

Rollins will be back in action on Saturday, April 21 as they take on the Lynn University Fighting Knights in the SSC Finals at 11:30 a.m. The Tars will look to avenge their 7-2 loss to the Fighting Knights earlier this season.
