WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 14, 2007) ' The
Rollins women's tennis team ended their regular season and capped
off a four match winning streak with a 6-3 victory over Northwood
(Mich.) University on Saturday. The Tars end their 2007 slate with
a record of 19-3 and will be the fourth seed in next weekend's
Sunshine State Conference Tournament at Tampa.
Ninth ranked Tasi Purcell and Marnie Mahler defeated Ashley
Neumann and Julia Goncalves 8-2 in the top doubles spot while
Silvia Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko downed Nicole Kromer and
Cristina Oliveria 8-0 in the No. 3 position.
The Timberwolves (15-2) took the No. 2 doubles match as Desiree
Roset and Linda Tatala-Colin defeated Sonia Bernal and Mia-Han
Nguyen 8-1.
Senior and seventh ranked Purcell finished her final regular
season with a record of 20-1, taking the No. 1 doubles spot over
Roset 6-1, 6-1 while Bernal blanked Tatala-Colin 6-0, 6-0 in the
No. 3 spot. Shevchenko was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Goncalves and
Frandji downed Kromer 6-3, 6-4 in No. 5 singles.
Neumann defeated Mahler 5-7, 6-1, 13-11 in the No. 2 spot and
Oliveira took Nguyen 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 for the Timberwolves.
Rollins will be back in action on April 19-21 at the Sunshine
State Conference Tournament in Tampa.
