FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (April 13, 2007) ' Rollins
scored the equalizer in the top of the seventh, then plated four in
the extra frame and snuffed out a Nova Southeastern comeback to
post a 6-4 victory in Sunshine State Conference softball action on
Friday. The win moves the Tars to 31-9 overall and 6-4 in the SSC
while the Sharks fall to 26-25, 6-10 SSC.
Hurler Nicole Anderson picked up win number 20 on the year,
scoring the complete game victory. The sophomore right hander
scattered seven hits and surrendered one run with one walk and 14
strikeouts.
Leadoff hitter Sherri Rabenold paced the Rollins bats, going 3-5
with three runs scored and an RBI. Stacy Sanders, back from injury,
produced a 2-5, two RBI night while Amanda DeFilippo batted 2-4
with a run scored.
Ashley Baker suffered the loss in relief for the Sharks,
allowing four runs, two earned, in one and a third innings of work.
Valen Eberhard batted 2-3 with Katie Veltri knocking in two for
NSU.
The host Sharks jumped out to a 2-0 lead, plating one in the
third and one in the fourth. The Tars got on the board in the fifth
as Rabenold led off with a single, stole second and eventually
scored on a Sanders groundout, making the count 2-1. In the
seventh, Rabenold again led off with a base knock then scored the
tying run on a Sanders single. Rollins then pulled away in the top
of the eighth, taking advantage of NSU miscues to go up 6-2. Veltri
rocked a homer in the Sharks half of the eighth to make the score
6-4, but that would be it for NSU as the Tars picked up their
second straight SSC victory.
Rollins and Nova Southeastern will conclude their Sunshine State
Conference series on Saturday, April 14 with a 1 p.m.
doubleheader.
