MELBOURNE, Fla. (April 14, 2007) ' Rollins
posted three convincing victories in doubles and were nearly
perfect in singles en route to an 8-1 win over Florida Tech on
Friday in a re-scheduled match from an early season rainout.'
Tasi Purcell and Marnie Mahler, the 15th ranked doubles tandem
in the nation, picked up an 8-2 win over Michaela Horvathova and
Natalia Ramos in the top doubles spot. Sonia Bernal and Mai-Han
Nguyen, playing together for the second time, were an 8-5 winner
over Andra Madrigal and Nicole David at No. 2 while Silvia Frandji
and Anastasiya Shevchenko blanked Tania Gay and Aya Nakatsuji 8-0
at No. 3 for the Tars sweep.
Seventh ranked Tasi Purcell improved to 19-1 on the year with a
6-2, 7-6 victory over Michaela Horvathova in No. 1 singles. Bernal
scored a 4-6, 7-5, 10-6 victory over Madrigal at the No. 3 position
with Shevchenko taking David 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. Frandji downed Gay
at No. 5 and Nguyen took Nakatsuji at No. 6 both by scores of 6-1,
6-0.
Florida Tech scored their lone point as Ramos handed Mahler just
her third defeat of the season, winning No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-3.
Rollins will conclude their regular season on Saturday, April 14
at home against Northwood (Mich.) with competition slated for 11
p.m.
