WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 7, 2007) ' Lauren
Starcher blasted her first two career home runs, including a walk
off to end game two, and Sherri Rabenold also deposited two over
the fence as the Rollins softball team swept Lake Superior State by
scores of 5-1 and 10-2 (5 innings) on Wednesday. Rollins improves
to 16-6 with the sweep and drops Lake Superior State to 2-8.
Starcher ended the day going 4-6 with six RBI and two runs
scored. Her first homerun came in the fourth inning of the opener
and her second sent everyone home as she rocked a three RBI blast
to end game two. Rabenold batted 5-7 with five RBI and four runs
scored while also stealing two bases and moving her team leading
total to 12 on the year. Stacy Sanders tallied a dinger in the two
game set, while going 4-8 with an RBI and Ingrid Schumacher tagged
a solo shot game two to highlight a 3-5 day.
Nicole Anderson improved to 10-5 on the year, picking up the
game one victory. The sophomore scattered three hits and allowed
just one run, unearned, while racking up 12 strikeouts. Schumacher
was the winner of game two, surrendering four hits and two runs
with three strikeouts.
Rabenold sent a rocket over the right center fence to lead off
the Tars first inning of game one and give them a quick 1-0 lead.
The Lakers manufactured one in the second, but Schumacher singled
to lead off the Rollins fourth and Starcher made it a 3-1 game with
a shot over the left field wall. Rollins then plated one in each of
the sixth and seventh innings for the 5-1 victory.
The Tars jumped all over the Lakers again to begin the nightcap
as Rabenold doubled to lead off and eventually scored on a wild
pitch. Back to back homers by Sanders and Schumacher blew the game
open and gave the Tars a 3-0 cushion. Rabenold singled in DeFilippo
in the second, but LSSU came back with one it the fourth to make
the score 4-1.
In the fourth, the Tars took advantage of two errors and plated
three, but again Lake State answered with one in the top of the
sixth. Sanders singled and Schumacher walked in the Tars sixth to
put two on with one out before Starcher hit another over the right
field fence for a walk off homer.
Rollins will be back on the diamond on Monday, March 12 as they
will host Spring Arbor (Mich.) in a double header. Game one is set
to begin at 6 p.m.
