WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 7, 2007) ' The
Rollin's men's tennis team suffered their third straight loss at
the hands of the 8th ranked Northwood (Mich.) Timberwolves 5-4 on
Wednesday afternoon at the Martin Tennis Complex.
Northwood earned a pair of wins in doubles, claiming wins at No.
1 and No. 3 doubles. Gustavo Carvalho and Jonathan Gomez fell to
the 4th ranked team of Marius Broek and Teddy Mebounou 8-6 in the
No. 1 match.'Michael Schwartz'and Adrian Tan stunned Carlos Canudas
and Sasha Nanninga 8-1 in the second seeded doubles. In the third
slot, Brian Compton and Pablo Seijo lost to Henrik Seger and
Olivier Brignoli 8-6.
The Timberwolves then posted wins three of the top four singles
positions to clinch the victory. No. 1 ranked Mebounou took out No.
32 Tan in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in the first match, while Seger
ran past Compton 6-2, 6-3 in the second seed. Gomez gave the Tars
hope with a win over Brignoli 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles match,
but in the No. 4 position, Carvalho lost to Broek 7-5, 6-4. The No.
5 Seijo and No. 6 seed Michael Schwartz both won their matches by
retirement.
The Tars (4-3) will hit the courts again tomorrow, March 8, when
they play host to the Grand Valley State Lakers (6-2) at 2:00
p.m.
