WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 7, 2007) ' The Rollins
women's tennis team notched another convincing win by defeating
25th ranked Grand Valley State (15-4) 8-1, bringing their overall
record to an impressive 7-1.
The Tars swept all three doubles contests on Wednesday
afternoon. The 18th ranked team of Tasi Purcell and Marnie Mahler
remained perfect this season as they did away with Lindsay Grimmer
and Emily Zellner 8-4 in No. 1 doubles. Sonia Bernal and Allison
Arof pulled out the win over Abrey Koopsen and McCall Monte 9-8,
and Silvia Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko dominated Jenna
Killips and Jamie Oppenlander 8-2.
Rollins also controlled singles play only dropping one match at
the No. 6 position. No. 10 Purcell ran past Grimmer 6-1, 6-1, while
Mahler defeated Killips 7-5, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot. Bernal tallied
her seventh win of the season by dictating her match over Koopsen
6-4, 6-2. Shevchenko brought down Zellner 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth
seeded match, and Frandji overcame Monte 6-7, 6-1, 10-5 in the No.
5 slot. Mai-Han Nguyen gave it her all as she lost in a close match
against Oppenlander 6-1, 4-6, 10-8.
The women's tennis team will be back in action on March 9 when
they take on the Division I Illinois State Redbirds (4-4) at 3:30
p.m.
