WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 5, 2007) ' Sophomore
pitcher Nicole Anderson threw her first career perfect game on
Monday as Rollins swept past Lander University by scores of 7-0 and
8-0 (5 innings) in doubleheader softball action. Coming off a
no-hitter in her last outing, Anderson sat down all 21 Bearcat
batters in a row, 14 by way of strikeout.
Rollins (14-6) senior Stacy Sanders, the reigning Sunshine State
Conference Player of the Week, led the Tars' hot bats, going 4-6
with four RBI and two runs scored on the day, including her team
leading fifth homerun of the year. Jamie Rausch batted 3-5 with two
RBI while Sherri Rabenold hit 3-6 with five RBI and three runs
scored.
Anderson's win in game one improved her record to 9-5 on the
year while Ingrid Schumacher picked up the game two win, improving
to 5-1 by allowing just two hits in five shutout innings.
In game one, Rollins manufactured two runs in the second as
Randi Irwin reached with a single, Rabenold walked and Sanders
brought them both home with a double to the right field wall. The
Tars blew the game open in the fourth as Rabenold smashed a three
RBI double that scored Lauren Winney, Meghan Shaw, and Victoria
Rudolph to give the Tars a 5-0 lead. The hosts plated two more in
the inning as Rabenold scored on an Almengual sac bunt and Sanders
blasted a solo shot over the left field wall.
A big second inning in the nightcap gave the Tars a comfortable
5-0 lead as they were able to cruise the rest of the way. Small
ball led to the first run as Rudolph walked, was sacrificed over by
Lauren Starcher, and moved to third on a Winney single. Rabenold
knocked in both baserunners with an RBI single to get the Tars up
2-0. Almengual singled to score Rabenold, Sanders tripled to plate
Almengual and Rausch brought in Sanders with an RBI single to
complete the five run frame.
In the fourth, Schumacher drew a bases loaded walk to put
Rollins up 6-0 and the Tars got two in the fifth as Starcher scored
on a wild pitch and Rausch smacked a walk-off RBI single that
scored Winney and ended the game.
Rollins will take Tuesday off before getting back on the diamond
on Wednesday, March 7 at 6 p.m. against Lake Superior State.
