Sophomore hurler Nicole Anderson tossed her seventh career
no-hitter in game one of the series, striking out 11 and allowing
just one base runner with a third inning walk. The victory improved
her record to 8-5 on the year. Ingrid Schumacher picked up the game
two win, surrendering six hits and three runs.
Sherri Rabenold led the Tars powerful offense on the day, going
4-7 with three RBI and four runs scored. She also stole four bases,
bringing her season total to 10. Jamie Rausch also had a big day,
batting 4-6 with two RBI and two runs scored. Lauren Starcher went
3-3 with three runs scored and an RBI in game one and also crossed
the plate in the night cap for the Tars.
In the opener, the Tars jumped all over the Tigers early,
hanging seven runs in the bottom of the first. Rabenold led off
with a single and, after a stolen base and wild pitch, was brought
around by a Sanders RBI single. Victoria Rudolph rattled a two RBI
double that plated Rausch and Sanders and put Rollins up 3-0.
Starcher doubled to right center to score Rudolph and eventually
scored herself on a throwing error by Salem. Rollins capped off the
big inning with a Lauren Winney RBI triple, who then later scored
on another Tigers miscue.
Three more runs came in the third as Rollins notched just two
hits, but took advantage of three errors and pushed their lead to
10-0. Rollins hung two on the board in the fourth as four straight
singles, including RBI base hits from Rabenold and Rachel
Almengual, put the Tars up 12-0.
In game two, Rollins scored one in the first as Rabenold drew a
lead off walk, stole second and third, and then crossed the plate
on an Almengual sac bunt. Salem International fought back with two
in the top of the second, blasting back to back doubles to take a
2-1 lead. Rollins answered with seven in their half of the frame to
take control of the game. The Tars recorded just two hits in the
inning, but three bases loaded walks, three wild pitches, a passed
ball, and hit batsmen led to the Tars seven scores.
Rollins got one in the third and two in the fourth as Rabenold
smacked a two RBI triple and gave the Tars an 11-3 lead.
Rollins will finish their grueling stretch on Monday, March 5 as
they will host Lander University in a double header at Lake Island
Park. First pitch for game one is slated for 5 p.m.
