BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 31, 2007) ' The Rollins
women's tennis team suffered their first lost in ten contests as
the Lynn Fighting Knights defeated the Tars 6-3 on Saturday
afternoon.
Rollins (15-2, 3-2) won one doubles contest on the afternoon
with Lynn taking the other two. No. 7 Tasi Purcell and Marnie
Mahler defeated No. 15 Katerina Jiskrova and Leigh Shelton 8-1 in
the first seed match-up. No. 17 Victoria Weltz and Alexandra Schunk
overpowered Sonia Bernal and Allison Arof 8-1 in the No. 2 contest.
Silvia Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko went down against Gedvile
Norkute and Klibanoff-Dombrowski 8-0.
The No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches were in favor of the Tars,
as Rollins lost in the final four seeds. No. 6 Purcell dominated
Weltz 6-0, 6-4 notching her ninth straight win, while Mahler routed
No. 19 Schunk 6-4, 6-3 in the second spot. No. 40 Norkute defeated
Bernal 6-0, 7-6 in the No. 3 position, and Jiskrova rolled past
Shevchenko 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth seed. Frandji slipped
against Shelton 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 match, while Mai-Han Nguyen
fell to Christina Johnstone 6-1, 6-2.
Rollins will be back in action on Sunday, April 1 when they
travel to Melbourne to take on the Florida Southern Mocassins
(12-3, 4-2) at 11:00 a.m.
