LAKELAND, Fla. (April 1, 2007) ' Rollins
suffered a rare sweep in doubles, but came back to take the top
three singles matches before ultimately falling 6-3 to Florida
Southern. The 20th ranked Tars fall to 15-3 overall and 3-3 in SSC
play while the 15th ranked Lady Mocs move to 12-3, 4-2 SSC.
In the No. 1 doubles match, seventh ranked Tasi Purcell and
Marnie Mahler suffered their first set back of the season, falling
to 14th ranked Senka Softic and Meri Gol 9-7. FSC took the other
two doubles matches as Silje Aarum and Lindsey Schwartz downed
Sonia Bernal and Allison Arof 8-2 at No. 2 while Erin Conroy and
Lidia Gandarias defeated Silvia Frandji and Anastasiya Schevhenko
8-6 at No. 3.
Rollins got back on track in singles competition, taking each of
the top three slots. Sixth ranked Purcell thumped 11th ranked
Softic 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 while Marnie Mahler downed Gol 6-0, 3-6,
10-6 at No. 2. Bernal represented the Tars third point as she took
Gandarias in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 3 match.
The Rollins women's tennis team will look to bounce back on
Saturday, April 7 against Florida Gulf Coast. Competition is slated
for 10 a.m. at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex.
