MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 24, 2007) ' Florida Tech
had Rollins' number on Saturday as the Tars suffered a doubleheader
sweep at the hands of the Panthers, falling 14-0 and 9-2 in
Sunshine State Conference action. Rollins drops to 20-12 overall
and 5-4 in conference play while Tech moves to 21-10, 6-4.
Senior Stefano Foggi led the Rollins bats, going 3-5 with two
doubles and an RBI on the day while junior Corey Whiting went 3-7
with a run scored.
Jon Wano (4-3) suffered the game one loss, going one and two
thirds innings, allowing four hits and six runs. Marc Hewett (2-3)
was tagged with the game two loss on the hill, surrendering six
runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
It was all Florida Tech in the early going of game one, putting
up three runs in each of the first two innings. Another came in the
third before a three run fourth inning made the score 7-0. The hit
parade for the Panthers kept coming as they rolled up a 14-0
advantage at games end.
In game two, the Tars took a 1-0 lead in the fourth as Foggi
rocked a two out double that scored Whiting. Tech answered in their
half of the frame, platting six and jumping ahead 6-1. Rollins
scored one more in the fifth, but again the Panthers countered with
three in the sixth to roll to the 9-2 win.
Rollins will be back in action at home on Tuesday, March 27
against Florida Southern. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
