WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 27, 2007) ' The Rollins baseball team suffered a 10-1 loss to No. 7 Florida Southern in a non-conference game at Alfond Stadium on Tuesday night.' Rollins fell to 20-13 overall with the loss, and Florida Southern improved to 26-6.

Rollins starter Alex Venegas (1-2) allowed six runs in two innings in his second loss of the year.' The Rollins bullpen saw plenty of action, as junior Bill Bradley, sophomore Mike Stopperich, and freshmen Bobby Coster, Chad Giannuzzi, and Dean Reinke combined to allow four runs over the final seven innings.' Freshman second baseman Ryan Luker and junior third baseman Gary Martoccio led the Tars at the plate, both going 2-4 with two singles.' Corey Whiting scored the only run for the Tars, as he reached base on an error by the second baseman in the sixth and came around to score on a wild pitch.

Florida Southern starter Steven Batman (2-0) pitched five scoreless innings for the win, striking out seven while allowing four hits and one walk.' Randy Cseh, Brad Davidson, Ryan Koch, and Brett Robinson combined to pitch the final four innings, giving up just one unearned run on two hits and three walks.' Right fielder Will Cherry went 3-4 with three runs scored to lead the Moccasins at the plate.' Shortstop Bryan Brown, third baseman Arden McWilliams, and left fielder Brian Schultz all collected two hits as well.

The Moccasins did not waste time getting on the scoreboard, as they scored one in the first, two in the second, and four in the third.' Brown doubled to lead off the game and came around the score on a triple by Shultz.' Designated hitter Tristan Rainone homered to right field in the second to give Florida Southern two more runs, and the Mocs piled on in the third with hits by Brown, Cherry, center fielder Kyle Patrick, and Shultz.' Rollins came back with its lone run in the sixth, but FSC responded with two more in the seventh and one in the ninth.

The Tars will return to conference play on Friday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m. when they start a weekend series against Saint Leo at Alfond Stadium.' Fans can listen to all the action live on the Tars Sports Network at www.RollinsSports.com.
