WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 23, 2007) ' Scoreless
in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and runners on the
corners, Rollins outfielder Lauren Winney smacked a base hit down
the left field line and gave the Tars a dramatic 1-0 Sunshine State
Conference victory over Florida Tech on Friday.
The win improves Rollins to 24-6 on the year and 3-1 in SSC play
while the Panthers fall to 30-16 overall and 6-1 in the
conference.
Nicole Anderson picked up the victory and moved to 16-5 on the
season, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out nine.
Amber West was pinned with the loss for Tech, surrendering four
hits and one run with three walks and two K's.
The Panthers looked as if they would jump ahead in the first,
but Anderson pitched her way out of a bases loaded jam to get the
Tars rolling. In the Rollins third, Amanda DeFilippo led off with a
single and was bunted around to third, but West was able to retire
the side and the game remained scoreless. The following frame,
Stacy Sanders drew a walk and Jamie Rausch knocked a double to left
center, putting runners on second and third with one out, but again
Tech was able to escape.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Lauren Starcher drew
a walk and was replaced on the paths by Meghan Shaw. A Defilippo
sac bunt moved Shaw to third and Victoria Rudolph knocked a two-out
single to put runners at first and third. Winney then worked a 2-2
count and shot a looping ball over the left fielder's head that
easily scored Shaw and gave the Tars the win.
Rausch, DeFilippo, Rudolph, and Winney each recorded base hits
to lead the Rollins offense while Danielle Stanly raced out two
infield hits to pace Tech.
Rollins will continue their Sunshine State Conference series
against Florida Tech with a double header on Saturday, March 24.
First pitch of game one is slated for 5 p.m. at Lake Island Park in
Winter Park.
