Tars Split Doubleheader Against Conference Rival Fla Tech

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 24, 2007) ' The Florida Tech Panthers ended the Tars 15 game home winning streak as Rollins won the first game of the doubleheader 5-0, but fell in the second 2-0 (nine innings) on Saturday evening at Lake Island Park.

Junior Ingrid Schumacher starred in the first game both as a pitcher and a hitter. She went 3-3 on the day notching two RBI and knocking out her fifth homerun of the season. In the circle, Schumacher (9-1)'pitched a shutout, one-hitter with two walks and one strikeout. Jamie Rausch went 1-3 tallying her fourth homer, while Lauren Starcher also went 1-3 with one RBI catapulting her third homerun of the season.

Judith Husband picked up the game one loss for the Panthers (31-17, 7-2). She allowed three runs on five hits for Florida Tech. Husband's record remains at 14-5 on the season.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Rausch whacked a homerun over the leftfield fence. In the bottom of the fifth with one runner on first, Sherri Rabenold fired her fourth triple as she sent Devon Kontos home for the RBI to give the Tars a 2-0 lead over the Panthers. Rollins sealed the game one win in the bottom of the sixth inning as Schumacher and Starcher hit back-to-back homeruns in which Florida Tech was unable to recover, leaving the final score 5-0.

The Tars and Panthers played an extremely defensive game two as both pitchers only allowed nine total hits in the game. Going into extra innings tied 0-0, Florida Tech found their bats in the top of the ninth inning when designated player Ashley Lugo hit a two-run homer off of sophomore hurler Nicole Anderson. Rollins was powerless in the bottom half of the inning as the Panthers claimed the game two victory 2-0.

Anderson (16-6) suffered the loss, pitching nine innings giving up two runs with five hits and nine strikeouts. Amber West earned the win on the evening, as Ida Danielson recorded her first save of the season for the Panthers.

On the weekend, Rollins (26-7, 4-2) took two of three games from the conference leading Panthers.
