ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 2, 2007) ' Senior
infielder Stacy Sanders blasted two homers and sophomore hurler
Nicole Anderson tossed a one hit shutout as the Rollins softball
team rolled past Eckerd 7-0 in the Sunshine State Conference opener
for both teams.
Rollins (9-5, 1-0 SSC) was led by Sanders and Jamie Rausch, who
each went 2-3 with three RBI. Sander's two homeruns on the day
moved her into first place on the Tars' career homerun list with 27
while Rausch moved into 10th place with her eighth career
dinger.
Anderson stifled the Eckerd (4-9, 0-1 SSC) bats, surrendering
just one hit while racking up 10 strikeouts, improving her record
to 7-4 on the year.
Rollins got on the board in the fourth inning as Sanders led off
with a solo shot over the fence. The Tars got three more in the
sixth to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Rachel Almengual led off the
frame with a single and was brought home after Sanders' second bomb
of the night. Rausch doubled later in the inning and crossed the
plate on a Victoria Rudolph groundout.
The Tars put it away in the seventh with three more runs, all
coming from the bat of Rausch, who hit a three RBI homer with two
outs.
Rollins will finish their three game set with Eckerd on
Saturday, March 3 in St. Petersburg. First pitch for game one is
slated for 4 p.m.
