Rollins Rolls By Florida Tech And Into Semifinals

BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 2, 2007) ' The Rollins men's basketball team downed the Florida Tech Panthers 80-65 in quarterfinal action to continue on in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament semifinals on Saturday, March 3 at 5:00 p.m.

Junior point guard Jonny Reibel led the scoring onslaught with 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds going 6-8 from the field, 3-4 from behind the arc and 2-3 from the charity stripe. Guard Kevin Hogan wasn't far behind with 16 points shooting 66 percent from the floor and from three point range. Senior Isaac Codrey knocked down 11 points, grabbing six boards, while John Thinnes drained 10 points for the Tars.

The Tars exploded in the first half by bolting out to an eight point lead with only three minutes ticked off the clock. The Panthers scratched their way back into the half, but consistent offensive plays by Rollins kept Florida Tech at a distance. Shots by Reibel, Hogan, center Jordan Kolosey and forward Greg Sweeney gave the Tars a hefty 16 point lead going into the locker room, 47-31.

A renewed Florida Tech team came out of the locker room firing with six unanswered points, while the Tars remained scoreless until the 16:40 mark of the second half. With 12 minutes left in the game, Rollins held a double-digit lead which wouldn't be tampered for the rest of the half. The Tars closed out another SSC victory with a quarterfinal win over the Panthers by 15 points.

Forward Jod Kelley and guard E.J. Murray both led Florida Tech (10-21, 4-12) with 14 points, with Kelley snatching six rebounds.
