WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 17, 2007) ' Senior
right-hander David Nathanson pitched a complete game shutout in the
Rollins baseball team's 1-0 victory over Sunshine State Conference
opponent Barry on Saturday at Alfond Stadium.' The Tars improved to
18-9 overall and 3-1 in conference play, and the Buccaneers dropped
to 15-11, 1-3.
Nathanson (6-0) remained undefeated, striking out six while
shutting out Barry through nine innings.' The reigning SSC Pitcher
of the Week allowed only five hits and one hit batter.' Junior
third baseman Gary Martoccio led off the bottom of the eighth
inning with a double, and he came around to score the game's only
run after a throwing error on a groundball hit by junior center
fielder Corey Whiting.' Freshman second baseman Ryan Luker was the
only Rollins player with two hits, as he went 2-3 with two
singles.' Martoccio's double was the only extra-base hit of the
game, and he finished the night 1-4.
Barry starter Jayson Brown (3-3) was dominating for the Bucs,
striking out 10 and allowing one unearned run in the complete game
loss.' Left fielder Evan Ashley went 2-4 from the leadoff spot, and
he was the only Barry player with more than one hit.
Rollins and Barry will return to Alfond Stadium at 1:00 p.m. on
Saturday, March 18 for a doubleheader to finish the weekend
